Kym Illman Newsletter – October 2024

A lot has happened in the F1 world in the past few months.

McLaren now leads the Constructors’ Championship, Daniel Ricciardo has left the sport, Oscar Piastri has celebrated his first and second win, Logan Sargeant has been replaced by Franco Colapinto, and Lando is in serious contention for the 2024 World Drivers’ Championship – but I’m sure you’re already up to date with that news, so let’s take a look at what Kym has been up to behind the scenes!

Kym has spent a fair amount of time in Lancelin – enjoying sleeping in his own bed and relaxing in the Perth Spring weather. Of course that’s only when he wasn’t four-wheel driving through the sand dunes and beaches, and eating Tonya’s home-cooked meals of which he rates her steak in the high 9s!

However, it wasn’t all relaxation and eating for Kym! He’s also been working on new YouTube videos for his followers, as well as other exciting “top-secret” (insert winking eye) projects, such as curating his large format 100-page “Best of F1 2024” photo book. Keep an eye on his website for release details.

It was then off to Singapore which turned out to be a dramatic and emotional weekend for both the sport and Kym. The confusion surrounding Daniel Ricciardo’s uncertain future made this a particularly challenging race. Kym and his son, Jayce, were in the paddock until the early hours of Monday morning, documenting every moment of Daniel’s final race with the team.

Kym even had the opportunity to chat briefly with Daniel and personally thank him for all his contributions to the sport, giving him a heartfelt hug as Daniel left the paddock for what turned out to be his last time as an F1 driver. It was an emotional moment for Kym and Jayce, especially as fellow West Australians, with Daniel being the reason Kym fell in love with the sport in the first place.

After Singapore, Kym returned home briefly to do a few interviews with Australian news networks like The Project. Not one to sit still though he soon set off on a family holiday to the Philippines. Manila was a profoundly eye-opening experience, with Kym making time to visit some of the local slums. As you can see in his Manila travel video, this moved Kym deeply. Head to Kym’s YouTube channel to find out more about his trip.

From Manila, Kym jumped on a flight with ANA to Austin as the tail end of the F1 season kicks off. He’s got a travel video in the works about ANA’s impressive business class, which Kym found to be top-notch. Keep an eye out for that in the coming days!

Thank you for following along on Kym’s journey, and as always, STAY PASSIONATE!
